Take The Stairs

The elevator is easy. Press a button and it takes you to where you want to go. The stairs are tough. The stairs are dirty. They require work. They’re tiring. But as you climb higher and look back to see how far you’ve come, the view is pretty rewarding.

There are no short cuts in life. As much as I love The 4-Hour Workweek, you have to put in the work first to reap those kinds of rewards later. Convenience is toxic. There is no such thing as an overnight success. Anyone branded with that title was putting in the hours long before they burst onto the scene. Maybe it wasn’t 10,000 hours, but no one just wakes up one morning and becomes a talented artist, or creates a product that everyone has to have. Something was simmering inside them long before, being honed and crafted by all of life’s experiences.

There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.
